Friendship observed its 10th anniversary with the support of Banque de Luxembourg in Luxembourg recently. From its beginning, Friendship is working to restore the dignity of marginalized communities in Bangladesh by delivering effective development solutions using a holistic value-based approach.

ডাকাতের নৌকা
‘এদিকে তো আগে ডাকাতি হতো, এখন হয়?’
‘আমরা ডাকাতি করি না, কিন্তু ডাকাতের নৌকা চিনি। ওই ঘাটেই তো ছিল কয়েকটা।’
কথাটা শুনে একটু ভয়ই হলো। এই নৌকাও যে তাদের না, তা কী করে বুঝব? বগুড়া শহরের পূর্বে সারিয়াকান্দি। একসময় খুব ভাঙত। হয়তো নদীভাঙা মানুষদেরই কেউ কেউ ডাকাতিকে পেশা হিসেবে নিয়েছিল। যমুনার ডাকাতেরা বেশ জবরদস্ত। গত বছর সাপধরী ইউনিয়নে ডাকাতির সময় তিনজনকে গুলি করে। তার আগের বছর চরবাটিয়ার সাতটি বাড়ি থেকে ২৮টি গরু ও টাকাপয়সা নিয়ে যায়। আহত হয় সাতজন।

GAIBANDHA, May 12: Speakers at a function here on Wednesday underscored the need for ensuring healthcare services to the char people of the district to reduce the infant and mother mortality rate. An emphasis should also be given to conduct the family planning activities among the char people here through joint efforts of all concerned departments, they opined.

other stakeholders at a training centre of an NGO at Madnerpara under Fulchhari upazila on Wednesday 
afternoon.

Our Correspondent GAIBANDHA, May 7: Activities of a project entitled 'Promoting Paralegal Support for the Marginalized Char Dwellers (PPSMCD) has been running at 6 char unions of Gaibandha and Kurigram districts since January amid creating positive impacts to char inhabitants. Friendship, a reputed national NGO, is implementing the project at 10 chars of Fazlupur, Urya, and Erendabari unions under Gaibandha district and Jatrapur, Astamirchar and Chilmari unions under Kurigram district at the sponsorship of EMK (Edward M. Kennedy) Centre.
