Honourable guests hold their copies of 'Friendship Centre,' a monograph by architect Kashef Chowdhury on a project of the same title, at the launching ceremony in Dhaka on Saturday
The project, established for an NGO named Friendship, has won numerous awards both at home and abroad.
A monograph titled “Friendship Centre,” on the project Friendship Centre by architect Kashef Chowdhury, was formally launched on Saturday at Radisson Blu Water Garden in Dhaka.
Sponsored by the country’s leading cement manufacturer Shah Cement, the book launching ceremony was attended by, among others, Cultural Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman Noor, State Minister for Energy, Power and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Mario Palma, non-government organisation Friendship’s Executive Director Runa Khan, Abul Khair Group’s Director (Brand Marketing) Naushad Chowdhury, on behalf of Shah Cement, and Institute of Architects, Bangladesh Vice-President Jalal Ahmed.
In the ceremony, Kashef’s participation in the prestigious Venice Architecture Biennale 2016 was also announced, according to a press statement.
Kashef, a prominent architect in Bangladesh, designed the Friendship Centre for the NGO Friendship, which works for the development of ultra poor population in the country.
Established in Gaibandha in 2011, the project has won numerous awards including the AR+D Emerging Architecture Award 2012 in the UK and Architect of the Year for Focus Countries 2014 in India.
Friendship Centre was one of the finalists in the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2016 as well.
