Daily Observer: Reaching legal aid services to grassroots level underscored

GAIBANDHA, Apr 26: Speakers at a function here underscored the need for reaching the legal aid services to the people of grassroots level for protecting their fundamental rights.
They also opined that only the judiciary isn't capable to ensure the services to the underprivileged people of the society but concerted efforts of all quarters including NGOs are necessary in this connection.

They made the comments while addressing a views-exchange meeting between the members of district legal aid committee (DLAC) and the representatives of an NGO Friendship at the conference room of district judgeship recently.
Judge of District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Ratneswar Bhattacharya addressed the meeting as chief guest and Additional District Judge M. Shariful Islam, Chief Judicial Magistrate M. Shahidullah, and Police Super Ashraful Islam were present as special guests.
Director of legal compliance and head of good governance project of Friendship Barrister Ayesha Taasin Khan chaired the function. 
It was also addressed, among others, by District Legal Aid Officer and Senior Assistant Judge Rawshan Alam, government pleader Hafizur Rahman and Manager of the project Abu Muhammad Shihab.
Earlier, overall activities of Friendship and the legal aid service programme for the char people were presented by team leader Ahmed Toufiqur Rahman and lawyer of the organization M. Moniruzzaman through multimedia projector.
Judge Ratneswar Bhattacharya said entire people of the society are equal to the eye of the law, so emphasis should be given on bringing all the victimised people under the legal aid services, whatever and whenever they need.
